Electric wheelchairs

How do I pick out the best chair for me?

Together, we will determine the best electric wheelchair to meet your daily needs, considering your height and weight, your everyday lifestyle, and how often the chair will be used. You can also use our comparison chart to help you make this decision. Also input from your physical therapist and an evaluation is necessary to insure you get the best possible product for your lifestyle.

What is the difference between an electric wheelchair and a scooter?

Electric wheelchairs are power wheelchairs that allow for better turning radius and easier access within the home. They can be used within the home and out.

Scooters are 3 or 4 wheel- powered vehicles that have handle bars and are best used outside of the residence, due to their larger turning radius''s and length.

How steep of a hill will the electric wheelchairs climb?

Most chairs are designed for a 5% grade only per ADA regulations, however, they can handle steeper grades, but usually only for short distances. They aren''t made to go up the sides of mountains or over rough terrain. There are other chairs that are made to handle these tasks, ask us and we will help find the right one for you and you and your families lifestyle.

How steep can I place my ramp for me to walk my chair up on?

Typically a six foot ramp is long enough for loading and unloading from a van or truck.

I weigh over 400 pounds, do you have a chair that will fit me?

Yes we do have a chair for someone over 400 pounds.

How will my chair do on dirt and uneven gravel?

All of the chairs our designed for a variety of surfaces both indoors and out, however, some are better for outside usage such as all of the Merit chairs as they have rear wheel drive and are more suitable for outside. There is no need for anti-tipping devices if the chairs are used properly, but they can be equipped with them for a smoother and less dangerous ride if required.

Are batteries included in the price?

YES. Your electric wheelchair will arrive with 2 sealed maintenance free batteries. These batteries are FAA/airline approved and can be used on all forms of public transportation.

Will the chair breakdown and fit in the trunk of my car?

Based on your needs, we do have chairs that will break down for easy transport. However, our lightest piece will weigh 28-32 pounds which might be difficult for you to do this yourself. If you plan on transporting the chair a lot, then we would recommend you get a lift for your vehicle to make your access easier on you and your family.

Do you sell used chairs?

Yes we do and we normally have several in stock at any given time. Call us and see what is available now. We also buy used chairs in really outstanding condition to re-sell to those that might need a new or used one.

Do you donate chairs to people who have no insurance and are financially strapped?

No, we are not in a position to do that because of insurance liability issues, however, if you have insurance, we might be able to help you and if you have no insurance then you can contact one of the national or local non-profit agencies and they might be able to assist you in locating one.

What size foot platforms are there?

Standard flip-up and Elevating Leg Rest (ELR''s) can get equipped on your chair.

What degree does the seat swivel?

90 degrees left and right, on most chairs.

Are accessories available for my chair?

We sell accessories with the purchase of our products only and each product has a list of the accessories available. Some exceptions include Oxygen Tank holders, Cain holders, baskets for your personal items and convenience items you might require.

What is the difference between a scooter and an electric wheelchair?

I weigh over 400 pounds, do you have a scooter that will fit me?

Yes, we have the scooters that has a weight capacity of up to 450 lbs. or more.

How will my scooter do on dirt and uneven gravel?

All of the scooters our designed for a variety of surfaces both indoors and out, however, some are better for outside usage than others, otherwise known as a Power Motor Vehicle. (PMV) Let us take the time to show the different models and capabilities that they have and determine the one that best fits your needs.

Are batteries included in the price?

YES. Your scooter will arrive with the number of necessary sealed maintenance free batteries. These batteries are FAA/airline approved and can be used on all forms of public transportation

Do you sell used scooters?

Sometimes, it depends on if we have any in stock or if someone has one they are trying to sell. Call us and we will tell you if we have any in stock.

Lift chairs

What is the difference between the Luxury line and the Comfort line?

Both chairs are well manufactured chairs. The real difference, besides cost, is that the Comfort line is more economical than the Luxury line. An analogy would be to compare a standard car like a mid-sized Toyota to a full sized Cadillac. Not everyone can afford a Cadillac, or would choose one even if they could afford it. It is all a matter of personal taste and convenience. Choose the one best fits your financial situation or the image you want to project to those around you. Different people have different needs or wants and we try to accommodate both attributes, that''s why it''s important you talk to us prior to making an important decision like this one. We can recommend what will work the best for you at the least cost for you. High Tech Mobility isn''t out to sell you the most expensive item, only the one that will satisfy your requirements and budget the best. That is why we don''t have to advertise. It''s also why we get so many referrals from satisfied customers and so many repeat many customers. We pass those savings along to you. It works for everyone that way. What is the difference between the model numbers?

The main difference is the size of the chair. They range from petite to extra large. The model numbers may differ in features slightly but the again the main difference is just the size of the chair.

How do I pick the best lift chair for me?

Together, we will determine the best lift chair to meet your daily needs, considering your height and weight, your everyday lifestyle, and how often the chair will be used. We have comparison charts to help you make this decision.

Can I choose the color and fabric?

Yes, there are numerous colors and fabrics to choose from. We have color charts for the lift chair that you have chosen and will assist you in obtaining what you want.

If I receive assistance for a lift chair what are my chances to receive Medicare help and a Scooter or a Medical Driven Power Chair?"

Medicare will cover a portion of your lift chair if you submit the receipt to them, however this portion is minimal. With the current Medicare policies and codes in place, it is best for you to pay out of pocket for a lift chair. If your condition might worsen quickly, because it is hard for Medicare to approve you for a Power Operated Vehicle (POV) scoot or wheelchair if you are physically able to use a lift chair.

Does Medicare cover lift chairs?

Medicare may cover a portion of your lift chair if you submit the receipt to them, however you should be advised that this will be minimal at best. Do not expect full reimbursement for the lift chair or anything close to that that. We would rather you know right now and not be disappointed or expect something that may not happen. We try to be straight with our customers at all times. That is important to us.

What is the difference between a transport wheelchair and a lightweight wheelchair?

You can not self propel a transport wheelchair, you must have someone push the chair from behind. You however, can self-propel our lightweight chairs as well as have someone push you in those.
